CLEVELAND, Tenn. | Lindsey Roddy and Abby Bertram combined for 40 points as No. 7-ranked Lee University held off Young Harris College 67-51 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday (Dec. 7) afternoon at Walker Arena.
The Flames improved to 9-0, while the Mountain Lions saw their four-game win streak snapped as they fell to 5-2. Young Harris returns to action Dec. 19 as the Mountain Lions open up Peach Belt Conference play with a noon Education Day game against Lander University at the YHC Basketball Arena.
Lee jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead after a Bertram steal and layup with 6:50 left in the first quarter. The Flames scored 32 points off YHC's 27 turnovers. However, the Mountain Lions scored 14 of the game's next 18 points - including the last eight points - to tak a 17-15 lead on a
Bria Clemmons layup with 2:17 left in the period. That would be the last points of the quarter as Lee scored the final nine points to take a 24-17 lead.Â
Lee expanded its lead to 12 points (29-17) as they scored the first five points of the second quarter, but the Mountain Lions, who only hit one of their 13 attempts from the field in the second stanza, clawed back within six points (29-23) after a
Lindsey Caudell three -pointer with 2:36 left. The Flames took a 35-23 halftime lead after Lee scored the final six points of the quarter.
The closest the Mountain Lions would get in the second half was nine points (38-29) after a
Niaya White free throw culminated a 6-0 run to start the third quarter.
Roddy finished with 23 points for the Flames, while Bertram tallied 17. Becca Cheeks added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Carly Winters led the Mountain Lions with 12 points, while
Sarah Woghiren added 11 points and eight rebounds. White also pulled down eight rebounds and
Haylie Shope grabbed seven as Young Harris outrebounded Lee 42-33.
