Archie, Mountain Lions clip Falcons 91-82

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Jacorie Archie scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Young Harris College men's basketball team defeated Pfeiffer University 91-82 in a non-conference game Monday (Dec. 2) evening at the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-5 and will return to action Saturday (Dec. 7) when they travel to Rome, Georgia, for a 4 p.m. contest against Shorter University.

In a game that saw neither team lead by more than nine points, Young Harris took the lead for good as they reeled off six unanswered points to open up a 59-55 lead after Brandon Beloti hit one of two free throws with 12:42 remaining in the contest. Pfeiffer pulled within a point (64-63) after Taylan Rowe sank one of his five three-pointers less than two minutes later.

The Mountain Lions, which shot 66.7 percent (20-of-30) from the floor in the second half, got back-to-back baskets from Jonathan King and Ryle Owens to take an 82-75 lead with 4:34 to play. The closest the Falcons would get the remainder of the way was five points (84-79). YHC took its largest lead - nine points (88-79) - after King sank one of two free throws with 61 seconds left.

Young Harris held a 49-43 edge in rebounding and saw the Mountain Lions outscore the Falcons in the paint 46-28. YHC limited the Falcons to 36.4 percent shooting (28-of-77) in the game and forced 20 Pfeiffer turnovers.

Archie scored his points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor, while Owens finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Beloti tossed in 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Brian Harper, who was limited to 22 minutes, had nine points, eight assists and four steals for the Mountain Lions. Seth McCoy also scored nine points.

Josiah Avington led the Falcons with 20 points, while Rowe (18) and Sean Scott (12) also finished in double figures. Jamaal David led Fielder with 12 rebounds.
