No. 9 YHC wins 2019 Peach Belt title with 1-0 win over Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. | Sondre Olsen's early goal was the diiference as Young Harris College men's soccer team clinched their fifth Peach Belt Conference title with a 1-0 win over Francis Marion University Saturday (Nov. 9) evening at Hartzler Field.

The ninth-ranked Mountain Lions won their seventh consecutive match as they improved to 12-3-0 and to 6-1-0 in the Peach Belt. Francis Marion fell to 12-4-1 and 4-3-0. Young Harris, which has won PBC crowns in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019, will look to earn its fifth PBC Tournament title next week in Evans, Georgia. As the top seed the Mountain Lions earned a first-round bye and will play the winner of the University of North Georgia-Francis Marion first round contest Friday (Nov. 15) at 5 p.m. in a semifinal contest at Blanchard Woods Park.

Olsen gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead at the 8:22 mark off an assist from Christian Kirchhoff. It was Olsen's team-leading 12th strike of 2019.

Young Harris and Francis Marion each took six shots, while the Mountain Lions held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Young Harris goalkeeper Alex Iglesias registered his seventh shutout of the season as he picked up one save, while FMU netminder Maximilano Rocco had two stops.
