Andreassen's game winner with three seconds in OT sends YHC past North Georgia 1-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | It came down to another fantastic finish in the Battle of Blood Mountain men's soccer rivalry between Young Harris College and the University of North Georgia Wednesday (Nov. 6) evening at the YHC Soccer Field.

For the second consecutive year, the game was decided in the final seconds of overtime. Seba Andreassen's goal with three seconds remaining in the first extra period gave the No. 9-ranked Mountain Lions a 1-0 win over the Nighthawks.

Young Harris, which is ranked sixth in Super Region 2 in the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings released earlier in the day, outshot North Georgia 20-8 (7-1 on goal), but it took nearly 100 minutes before the Mountain Lions were able to convert. Anthony Gimenes sent the ball into the box to Andreassen from the left side as the final seconds were being counted down. Andreassen was able to beat the UNG keeper and put the golden goal into the back of the net for his eighth goal of 2019.

With the win, the Mountain Lions, who are 11-3-0 overall, remain in first place tie with Lander University in the Peach Belt Conference with one match remaining in the regular season. North Georgia fell to 5-9-1 overall and to 2-4-0 in the league. Young Harris travels to Florence, South Carolina, for a 7 p.m. PBC match Saturday (Nov. 9) against Francis Marion University.

YHC held an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks. UNG goalkeeper Luis Lepervanche recorded six saves, while Alex Iglesias recorded his sixth clean sheet of the season as he stopped one shot.
