YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's soccer team scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half as the Mountain Lions rallied to defeat Queens University of Charlotte 2-1 in a non-conference match Wednesday (Oct. 9) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Royals fell to 6-4-0, while the Mountain Lions improved to 6-3-0. Queens (N.C.) and YHC were both NCAA Division II Tournament teams in 2018. Young Harris steps back into Peach Belt Conference action with a 7 p.m. road match Saturday (Oct. 12) against Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia.
The Royals were staked to a 1-0 lead at the 16:26 mark as Matias Morales scored.. Teammate Jaden McCane sent a pass from midfield to Morales at the top of the box. Morales's shot was deflected by YHC goalkeeper
Alex Iglesias, who had come out to challenge the shot; however, the ball rolled into the bottom right corner of the next.
Young Harris outshot Queens (N.C.) 17-3 in the match, including an 11-1 edge over the final 45 minutes. The Mountain Lions tied the match at 1 at the 60:28 mark.
Jordan Mills crossed the ball from the left side into the box to
Sondre Olsen, who buried the shot into the right corner of the net for his sixth strike of the season. Young Harris took the lead just over 2 1/2 minutes later as
Yesin van der Pluijm coverted his second penalty kick - and third goal overalkl - of the season. The PK was awarded after
Seba Andreassen was taken down in the box.
YHC also held a 10-2 margin in corner kicks. Sebastian Kalk tallied three saves for the Royals in goal, while Iglesias stopped one.
