Young Harris surges past Hurricanes 4-0

AMERICUS, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's soccer team picked up a 4-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (Oct. 12) evening at Hurricane Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 7-3-0 overall and to 1-1-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Hurricanes fell to  3-6-0 and  to 0-2-0. Young Harris returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 19) for a 7 p.m. PBC tilt with Lander University at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field. It will be the Defend The Den game for the Mountain Lions this fall.

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead at the 19:49 mark on a Dani Fischer goal. Fischer had a direct kick just out of the box that the Hurricane goalkeeper couldn't corral and Fischer followed his own shot for his second goal of the season.

The Mountain Lions doubled their lead three minutes into the second half as Seba Andreassen converted a penalty kick after he was taken down in the box. Andreassen added another goal at the 69:01 mark as he scored from 12 yards out and put it in the left corner of the net. The goal - his sixth goal of 2019 - was set up by a cross from Sondre Olsen from the left side.

Young Harris added another goal with just over two minutes to play as Olsen curled in a direct kick from just outside the box into the upper left hand corner of the net. It was Olsen's team-leading seventh goal of the year.

The Mountain Lions dominated in shots 31-3 and held a 6-2 margin on corner kicks. YHC goalkeeper Alex Iglesias notched his third shutout of the season, while Matthew Sherry had three saves for the Hurricanes.
