YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's soccer team shut out Francis Marion University 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improve to 3-5-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the PBC, while the Patriots fell to 3-4-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the PBC. Young Harris is on the road this week as they travel to Columbus, Georgia, to play Columbus State University in a 5 p.m. match Wednesday (Oct. 9).
Eline Sand scored the lone goal 97 seconds into match after a
Payton Putzer cross deflected off of the goalkeeper. Sand gathered the ball and knocked it in the net at the back post.
Aimee Durn had a chance to double the lead for the Mountain Lions as she hit the crossbar in the early stages of the second half.
Pien Van Kampen recorded her second straight shutout as she tallied four saves in goal for Young Harris. Micahla Kitchen and Rachel Hennenkamp split time in goal for Francis Marion as Hennenkamp totaled three saves.
The Patriots edged the Mountain Lions 14-12 on shots, while each team recorded six corner kicks.
