AIKEN, S,C, | Ricardo Pineda scored two first half goals as the University of South Carolina-Aiken men's soccer upset No. 16 Young Harris College 3-1 in the Peach Belt Conference opener Saturday (Oct. 5) evening at the Pacer Pit.
The Pacers improved to 2-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-3-0 and 0-1-0. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Wednesday (Oct. 9) at 5 p.m. when they hosts Queens University of Charlotte.
Pineda scored in the 15th minute and added another strike 20 minutes later.Â
Young Harris outshot the Pacers 17-1 in the second half as they tried to get back in the match; however, Chukwudi Apugo gave USC Aiken a 3-0 lead with under three minutes left. The Mountain Lions got their goal with six seconds remaining on a
Seba Andreassen penalty kick. It was Andreassen's fourth goal of the season.
Young Harris finished the match outshooting the Pacers 22-7 (12-5 on goal) and held a 11-5 margin on corner kicks.
Alex Iglesias recorded two saves for the Mountain Lions, while Kenneth Kalek had 11 for the Pacers.
