MORROW, Ga. | Young Harris College got two early goals and made them stand up as the No. 21-ranked Mountain Lions shut out Clayton State University 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon at Laker Field.
The Mountain Lions won their fourth consecutive match as they improved to 9-3-0 overall and to 3-1-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Lakers fell to 10-4-0 and 3-1-0. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field next Saturday (Nov. 2) for a 2 p.m. PBC match against Flagler College. Prior to the match, the Mountain Lions will recognize their senior class.
Sondre Olsen scored his league leading 10th goal of the season at the 5:03 mark to give YHC an early 1-0 lead.
Anthony Gimenes sent a through ball down the left side of the field and Olsen buried it in the right corner of the goal.
The Mountain Lions added an insurance goal at the 22:12 mark as
Ali Koller headed the ball in off a free kick from
Christian Kirchhoff. It was Koller's fourth goal of 2019.
Young Harris doubled up the Lakers in shots 20-10, while Clayton State held a 6-5 margin in corner kicks.
Alex Iglesias registered his fourth clean sheet of the year as he collected six saves. Theo Blachon tallied eight saves for the Lakers.
