AUGUSTA, Ga. | Augusta University set a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball record for points as the Jaguars defeated Young Harris College 134-93 Monday (Jan. 21) afternoon at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Jaguars improved to 11-4 overall and to 7-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions saw their five-game winning streak snapped as they fell to 9-8 and 7-4. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Jan. 26) when they travel to Columbus, Georgia, for a 3:30 p.m. league contest against Columbus State University.
Augusta shot 65.8 percent (50-of-76) from the field, including 56 percent (14-of-25) from three-point range as they led for all but two minutes in the game. The Jaguars, who scored 25 second-chance points, outrebounded Young Harris 45-17.
Young Harris shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the floor and hit 10 three-pointers. With the 10 three-pointers, the Mountain Lions set a new team season record. Young Harris has hit 208 three-pointers so far in 17 games, surpassing the 207 hit in 26 games during the 2012-13 campaign.
Tyvez Monroe led Augusta with 32 points, while Rafael Monteiro added 26. Miguel Arnold tossed in 16 points, while Deane Williams and Aaron Byrd tallied 12 each. Troy Cracknell also scored 10 points for the Jaguars. Williams recorded a double double with 11 rebounds.
Alphonso Willis led the Mountain Lions with 22 points, while
Ryle Owens posted 16.
Brian Harper and
Seth McCoy scored 12 points each, while
Justin Jones had 10 for Young Harris.
