No. 3 Mountain Lions use second half surge for 4-1 win over Hurricanes

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College used a strong effort in the second half as the No. 3-ranked Mountain Lions defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 4-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Sept. 29) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 9-0-0 overall and to 2-0-0 in the league, while the Hurricanes fell to 2-6-1 and 0-2-0. Young Harris hosts No. 21 Limestone College in a 5 p.m. non-conference match Wednesday (Oct. 3). 

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead on a Seba Andreassen header in the 33rd minute. Andreassen's fourth goal of 2018 was set up on assists from Mikie Rowe and Carl Brannstrom, The Hurricanes tied the match at 1 seven minutes later as the Mountain Lions had trouble clearing the ball out of the backfield and Divin Moke scored from 18 yards out for his second goal of the season.

The Mountain Lions quickly regained the lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Kevin Coiffic sent the ball into the box to Carlos Gomez, who finds Rowe near the right post. Rowe headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for his 13th goal of 2018 and gave Young Harris at 2-1 lead at the 51:08 mark.

Gomez added an insurance goal for the Mountain Lions in the 73rd minute to give YHC a 3-1 lead. James Thomas sent the ball into Gomez, who blasted the ball in from six yards out for his eighth goal of the year. Connor Stanley added another score for the Mountain Lions when he collected a loose ball at the top of the box in the 82nd minute and put it in the back of the net for his first goal of the year,

Young Harris outshot Georgia Southwestern 24-5 (11-2 on goal) and had a 9-2 margin on corner kicks. 

Alex Iglesias had one save in goal for Young Harris, while Francesco Bazzano had seven for the Hurricanes.
