No. 3 Young Harris marches past Saints 3-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Mikie Rowe scored twice and assisted on another as Young Harris College defeated Limestone College 3-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 3) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The No. 3-ranked Mountain Lions, who are 7-0-0 in the all-time series with the Saints, improved to 10-0-0, while Limestone slipped to 6-3-0. Young Harris will now travel to Greenwood, South Carolina, for a key 7 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match Saturday (Oct. 6) against No. 10 Lander University. Either Young Harris or Lander has won the PBC regular-season title since 2012.

Rowe, who leads the team and the Peach Belt with 15 goals, gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead at the 5:19 mark. Carlos Gomez's initial shot bounced off the left post and Rowe was there for the rebound  and deposited into the left corner of the net. Rowe made it 2-0 17 minutes later. Dani Fischer sent a long ball down the left side of the field and a Saint defender tried to clear the ball, but instead went to Rowe, who buried it in the left corner from 12 yards out.

Rowe figured in the final YHC score at the 66:13 as he collected a short Limestone goal kick and passed the ball across the top of the box to Mehdy Hidane, who knocked in it from 18 yards out from the left side for his second goal of 2018.

Limestone got its goal from Ivan Tapuskovic with just over five minutes remaining off an assist from Roberto Ortega Lopez.

YHC held a 12-9 advantage on shots, while Limestone doubled up the Mountain Lions in corner kicks 8-4. Alex Iglesias had a save in goal for Young Harris, while MIrko Ronchi and Alexander Snavely combined for two saves for the Saints.
