GREENWOOD, S.C. | Young Harris College shut out Lander University 3-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match between nationally ranked teams Saturday (Oct. 6) evening at Van Taylor Stadium.
The No. 3-ranked Mountain Lions improved to 11-0-0 overall and moved into first place in the PBC with a 3-0-0 ledger, while the No. 10 Bearcats slipped to 8-1-1 and 2-1-0. The teams have split the last six regular-season Peach Belt titles dating back to 2012. Young Harris, which holds a 7-2-2 mark in the all-time series with Lander, will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 13) when they host Clayton State University in a 7 p.m. PBC match at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions snapped Lander's 606 minutes shutout streak when
Seba Andreassen scored at the 17:32 mark off a corner kick from
Macauley King. It was Andreassen's fifth goal of the season. Young Harris doubled its advantage at 2-0 when
Alex Jacq curled a shot inside the far post just 78 seconds into the second half. It was Jacq's first goal of the year. YHC closed out the match as
Mikie Rowe converted a penalty kick with just 40 seconds remaining in the match. Rowe leads the conference in goals with 16.
The teams each took 17 shots, but the Mountain Lions held a 10-8 advantage on goal. The teams each took four corner kicks.
Alex Iglesias earned his sixth clean sheet of the year as he collected eight saves in the Young Harris goal, while Jacob Withers had seven for the Bearcats.
