YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Connor Stanley's goal in the 41st minute was the difference as Young Harris College shut out Clayton State University 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 13) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The No. 2-ranked Mountain Lions remained unbeaten in 2018 as they improved to 12-0-0 overall and to 4-0-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Lakers fell to 2-7-2 and 1-3-0. Young Harris returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 20) when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 2 p.m. PBC contest against Flagler College.
Young Harris scored its lone goal in the latter stages of the opening half.
James Thomas took one of six corner kicks for the Mountain Lions from the right side and found
Val Feeney, who sent in the box to Stanley, who headed the ball into the left corner of the net for his second goal of the season.
Young Harris dominated the match as they held an 18-9 advantage on shots, including a 7-2 margin on goal.
Alex Iglesias and
Christian Kjellsby combined in goal to record the Mountain Lions' seventh shutout of the year. Kjellsby had two saves for the Mountain Lions, while Kari Puustinen had six saves for the Lakers.
