FLORENCE, S.C. | Lucero Robayo's goal in the latter stages of the first half was all Young Harris College needed as the Mountain Lions registered a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Francis Marion University Friday (Sept. 21) afternoon at Hartzler Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-3-0 overall and leveled their PBC ledger at 1-1-0, while the Patriots, who were playing in their first match in 12 days due to Hurricane Florence, fell to 2-3-0 and 0-1-0. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Wednesday (Sept. 26) when they will host No. 4 Columbus State University in a 5 p.m. PBC contest.
Robayo, who has scored four times in two previous matches against FMU, gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead at the 41:08 mark.
Bianey Serrano played a short through ball on the left side to Robayo, who deposited the ball in the back of the net for her first goal of 2018.
Each team took 9 shots, with FMU holding a 4-2 edge on goal. Each team took four corner kicks.
YHC goalkeeper
Pien Van Kampen picked up her second clean sheet of the campaign as she stopped four shots, including three in the second half as the Patriots tried to rally. Rachael Hennenkamp had one save for Francis Marion.
