CLEVELAND, Tenn. | Young Harris College used three first-half goals as the No. 4-ranked Mountain Lions picked up a 3-2 non-conference men's soccer victory over Lee University Tuesday (Sept. 11) evening at the Lee Soccer Field.
Young Harris improved to 5-0-0, while the Flames fell to 2-2-1. The Mountain Lions return to action next Tuesday (Sept. 18) when they host Auburn University at Montgomery in a 3:30 p.m. contest at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead at the 20:08 mark as
Carlos Gomez scored on a deflection over the goalkeeper's head from the top of the box for his fifth goal of the season. The goal was assisted by
Alex Jacq. YHC doubled its lead 10 minutes later as
James Thomas assisted on
Mikie Rowe's team-leading ninth goal of 2018.
Seba Andreassen made it 3-0 as he scored on a one-time off a cross from
Mehdy Hidane at the 39:43 mark. It was Andreassen's second strike of the season.
Lee got a goal back in the 74th minute as Will Carter knocked in a rebound of Samaan Williams' initial shot. The Flames added another goal with 73 seconds remaining when Jake Brown's shot from the near corner of the box.
Young Harris held a 13-9 margin in shots (8-3 on goal) and 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.
Alex Iglesias had one save in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Daniel Hrenko had five for Lee.
