YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Four different Young Harris College men's soccer players scored as the No. 4-ranked Mountain Lions shut out Auburn University at Montgomery 5-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday (Sept. 18) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 6-0-0 while the Warhawks fell to 1-5-0. Young Harris opens up Peach Belt Conference competition Saturday (Sept. 22) when they host the University of South Carolina Aiken at 4 p.m.
Young Harris, which outshot AUM 33-3 (21-1 on goal), wasted little time jumping out ro a 1-0 lead.
Kevin Coiffic scored his first goal off a corner kick from
Alex Jacq at the 7:34 mark. The Mountain Lions, who head an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks, doubled their lead when
Seba Andreassen knocked in his third goal of 2018 on assists from
James Thomas and
Mehdy Hidane. Young Harris took a 3-0 lead on a
Mikie Rowe penalty kick at the 35:49 mark after the was taken down in the box.
It only took the Mountain Lions 2:11 into the second half to push their advantage out to 4-0 when
Dani Fischer's direct kick from 25 yards out whistled into top left corner of the net. It was Fischer's first goal of the season. Rowe scored his team-leading 11th goal nine minutes later after he teamed up with Thomas and Andreassen to give YHC a 5-0 lead.
Alex Iglesias notched his fourth shutout of 2018 as he stopped one shot. Alexander Kraus recorded 16 saves for the Warhawks.
