DAHLONEGA, Ga. | Young Harris College fell to No. 1 University of North Georgia 2-0 in the first game of the NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional 2-0 Thursday (May 17) afternoon at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium.
The Nighthawks, who are the No. 1 seed in the regional, improved to 60-2 on the season while the Mountain Lions, who are seeded seventh, fell to 35-20. Game two of the Super Regional is set to start at noon Friday (May 12) while game three, if necessary, is set for 2:30 p.m.
Alishia Frierson put UNG on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo homer to left center field.
Shelby Hammontree added a solo homer of her own in the bottom of the sixth to give the Nighthawks a 2-0 lead.
Kylee Smith (34-1) picked up the complete game win for UNG as she allowed two hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Louise Disi (5-6) earned the loss for YHC as she allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in six innings pitched.
