DAHLONEGA, Ga. | The Young Harris College baseball team fell to the University of North Georgia 4-2 in game one of the Battle of Blood Mountain series Friday (April 6) evening at Bob Stein Stadium.
The Nighthawks improved to 20-12 overall and 12-7 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Mountain Lions fell to 20-16 and 12-10. The two teams return for game two of the series Saturday (April 7) at 3 p.m.
North Georgia struck twice in the bottom of the fourth inning that started with a solo home run to right field by Joshua Profit.
William Mapes made it a 3-0 lead for the Nighthawks in the fifth inning with a single through the right side that scored Steven Tomlinson.
Rudy Gaona put Young Harris on the board in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run over the fence in left field, his sixth of the season.
Mapes hit a solo shot in the bottom half of the seventh over the left field fence to give North Georgia a 4-1 lead.
Corley Reynolds cut the lead in half (4-2) for the Mountain Lions in the top of the eighth inning with a single down the left field line that scored
Tyler Washington.
Cade Heil (5-4) picked up the win for the Nighthawks as he allowed two runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched. Parker Morrison picked up his seventh save as he walked one batter in 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Michael Livingston (4-2) earned the loss for Young Harris as he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched.
Gaona and Reynolds each collected one hit and one RBI.
