SPARTANBURG, S.C. | Nicole Kernohan and
Kendra Parenteau combined to score nine goals as Young Harris College defeated Converse College 18-7 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Friday (April 13) afternoon at Fulp Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 10-5 on the season, while the Valkyries fell to 3-11. Young Harris will travel to Huntsville, Alabama, April 21 to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville in a 1 p.m. Central time Gulf South Conference match.Â
Kernohan and Parenteau each scored twice as Young Harris scored six of the first seven goals to open up a 6-1 lead with 7:52 remaining in the first half. Converse responded with a goal nine seconds later, but the Mountain Lions then scored six of the next seven goals to take control 12-3 with 26:11 remaining in the match.
Kernohan paced YHC with five goals, while Parenteau added four more.
Erika Cross and
Anna Luckie tossed in two goals, while
Ansley Coles,
Maddie Peek,
Channing Milford,
Hannah Sacristan and
Leigh Anne Turner registered one apiece. Cross led the Mountain Lions with three assists, while
Hayley Bartlett and Parenteau had one each.
Young Harris doubled the Valkyries in shots 40-20 and also held advantages in ground balls (24-18) and draw controls (16-11).
Channing Milford had four draw controls, while
Kelsey Dover and Parenteau adding two each.
Anna Luckie scooped up four ground balls, while Milford and Cross corralled three each.Â
Julia Darroch posted eight saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
