YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Michael Livingston struck out 13 over eight innings and
Tyler Washington drove in three runs en route of a 5-2 victory over the University of South Carolina-Aiken in game one of the three game Peach Belt Conference baseball series Friday (April 13) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 22-18 overall and 14-11 in the PBC, while the Pacers fell to 24-15 and 15-7. The win marked the most conference wins for Young Harris since they won 13 games in the 2013 season. The two teams are back in action Saturday (April 14) at 1 p.m.
USC Aiken struck first in the top of the first inning with a two run homer over the fence in left center field by Brian Parreira.
Washington put the Mountain Lions on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a two RBI double to right center.
Washington added another run for Young Harris in the bottom of the fifth inning with a fielder's choice to short stop that scored
Brett Graczyk.
The Mountain Lions added two more runs in the sixth inning that started with a
Zavier Lushington single through the left side that scored
Corley Reynolds. Lushington later scored on a double down the left field line by
Logan Worley to give Young Harris a 5-2 advantage.
Worley made a leaping catch off the fence in left center field to rob the Pacers of a hit in the top of the eighth inning.
Livingston (5-2) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as he allowed two runs on 10 hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts in eight innings pitched.
McLain Harris got his fourth save of the season as he gave up one hit with two strikeouts in one inning of relief.
Washington finished with one hit and three RBI. Worley collected two hits, one RBI, and a run scored while Graczyk had two hits and two runs scored. Lushington had one hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
Jackson Jones,
Rudy Gaona, and
Tristin Smith tallied one hit each while Reynolds scored one run.
Zach Rafuse (4-3) earned the loss for USC Aiken as he allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
