Mountain Lions, Eagles split doubleheader

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  |  Young Harris College split a non-conference softball doubleheader with Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Aeronautical University Wednesday (March 7) afternoon at ERAU Softball Stadium. 

The Eagles took game one 11-3 in five innings before the Mountain Lions took the nightcap 5-2. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (March 14) as they host Carson-Newman University in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. 

Haylie Shope put the Mountain Lions on the board first in game two with a RBI single to center field to score Emily Harris in the first inning.

Harris added to the Young Harris lead in the top of the fourth with a single to left field that scored Kristan Lizardi. Murphy Davis made it a 3-0 game with a single to right field that allowed Harris to score. 

Mackie Chandler hit a two RBI single to center field for Embry-Riddle to make it a 3-2 game in favor of the Mountain Lions. 

Jill Torres hit a bunt single in the top of the seventh for Young Harris that scored Biz Walters. Sara Alderman drew a bases-loaded walk to score Hannah Harrison.

Dharma Rosbrugh (11-4) earned the win for the Mountain Lions as she allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Kennedy Kotula picked up her first save of the season as she allowed one hit with one walk and four strikeouts in three innings of scoreless relief

Harris went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. Shope had two hits and one RBI while Davis and Torres both had one hit and one RBI. Harrison finished with one hit and one run scored while Alderman tallied one RBI. 

Jayla Jackson (4-1) took the loss for the Eagles as she allowed five runs on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts in six innings pitched. 

The Mountain Lions struck first in the opener after Georgia Webb reached on a fielding error to score Harris in the first inning

Harrison scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second inning to give Young Harris a 2-1 advantage. 

Embry-Riddle scored three in the bottom half of the second to take a 4-2 lead. 

Harris scored on a throwing error in the top of the third inning to bring the Mountain Lions within one (4-3). 

The Eagles scored three more runs in the third and the fifth inning to secure the victory. 

IIona Andringa (10-3) picked up the win for Embry-Riddle as she allowed three unearned runs on five hits with four strikeouts in five innings pitched. 

Louise Disi (1-2) earned the loss for Young Harris as she allowed four runs (one unearned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched.

Harris went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Harrison collected one hit and one run scored. Shope and Kizardi each had one hit.
