Rosbrugh dominant in doubleheader sweep of Patriots

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |  Dharma Rosbrugh threw a complete game in the opener to win 3-1 before getting the 6-1 win in game two with 4.2 innings of scoreless relief for Young Harris College as they swept Francis Marion University in a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader Sunday (March 18) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.  

The Mountain Lions improved to 19-8 overall and 3-1 in the PBC, while the Patriots fell to 13-15 and 1-5. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (March 21) when they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee, for a 2 p.m doubleheader against Lee University. 

Hannah Harrison started the scoring in game one for the Mountain Lions in the bottom of the second inning after she scored on a failed pick off attempt by the catcher. Grace Botti crushed a two-run homer to left field - her second of the season - to give Young Harris a 3-0 lead. 

Jessica Harney put Francis Marion on the board in the top of the fifth inning with a single to right field that scored Taylor Johnson. 

Rosbrugh (11-4) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as she threw a complete game with one run on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. 

Botti went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Harrison and Georgia Webb each collected one hit and one run scored. Emily Harris and Kristan Lizardi both tallied one hit. 

Sydney Holland (8-9) earned the loss for the Patriots as she allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in six innings pitched. 

Haylie Shope put Young Harris on the board first in game two with a RBI single to left field that scored Murphy Davis in the first inning. Harrison added another run with a single up the middle that scored Shope. 

Lizardi came around to score in the bottom of the second off a wild pitch that gave the Mountain Lions a 3-0 lead. 

Harrison led off the third inning for Young Harris with a solo shot to center field, her fourth home run of the season. 

The Mountain Lions added two more in the bottom of the fifth inning that started with a Sara Alderman single to left field that scored Harrison. Kelsey Nix hit a single to third base that scored Fallyn Johnson for the second run of the inning. 

Rosbrugh (12-4) earned the victory for Young Harris as she allowed three hits with one walk in 4.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Harrison finished 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Shope, Alderman, and Nix each collected one hit and one RBI. Davis and Botti tallied one hit each. 

Reece Davis (5-5) took the loss for Francis Marion as she allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits with five walks and two strikeouts in six innings pitched.
