Mountain Lions split doubleheader with Saints in PBC opener

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.  |  Young Harris College split a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader with Flagler College Tuesday (March 6) evening at Flagler Field. 

Sara Alderman and Hannah Harrison homered in game one to give the Mountain Lions a 6-3 win, while the Morgan Murphy hit a game-ending single for the Saints to take game two 4-3. 

With the split, Young Harris moved to 16-7 overall and 1-1 in the PBC, while Flagler went to 11-12 and 1-1. The Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday (March 7) on the road in Daytona Beach, Florida, to take on Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Aeronautical University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. 

Georgia Webb put Young Harris on the board in the top of the first inning  in game one with a RBI groundout to score Murphy Davis

The Mountain Lions scored two more runs in the second that started with a single down the left field line by Kristan Lizardi that led to Hannah Emerson coming around to score on an error. Davis followed with a single to left field that scored Lizardi to take a 3-0 lead. 

Natalie Murphy grounded out to third to score Garland Evans to put the Saints on the board in the third. Tatum Morgan then tied the game at 3 with a single to left field that scored Maria Kappos and Genevieve Mangini. 

Alderman gave Young Harris the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer over the right field fence, her second of the season. 

Harrison added an insurance run for the Mountain Lions with a solo shot over the fence in right center field - her third of the season - to lead off the seventh. 

Dharma Rosbrugh (10-3) earned her eighth consecutive win for Young Harris as she allowed three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in four innings of scoreless relief. 

Alderman had one hit, two RBI and one run scored. Harrison went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. Lizardi tallied two hits and one run score, while Webb drove in one run and Davis collected one hit, one RBI and one run scored. 

Aly Marcano (4-5) took the loss for Flagler as she allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits with six walks and one strikeout in six innings pitched.

The Saints scored first in game two with back-to-back RBI doubles by Morgan Murphy and Jaclyn Mijuskovic. Natalie Murphy added another run with a single to right field to conclude the three-run inning. 

Webb hit an infield single to third base in the top of the fifth inning to score Emily Harris for the first Mountain Lion run of the game. Madison Urquiola collected a RBI after a bases-loaded walk that scored Webb. 

Young Harris tied the game at 3 in the sixth inning with a Webb RBI groundout to second that scored Davis. 

Morgan Murphy ended the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with a single to center field to score Kappos. 

Rosbrugh (10-4) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions as she allowed an unearned run on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in six innings of relief.

Harris went 4-for-4 at the plate with one run scored. Webb collected one hit, two RBI and one run scored. Davis, Haylie Shope, Jill Torres, Alderman, and Urquiola each had one hit. 

Marcano (5-5) picked up the win for Flagler as she allowed just one hit with four walks and three strikeouts in three innings of scoreless relief.
