Mountain Lions blow past Tornado to extend win streak to 10

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |  Young Harris College extended its  winning streak to 10 with a non-conference softball doubleheader sweep of King (Tenn.) University Sunday (March 4) evening at E.D. Rivers Field. 

Georgia Webb and Jill Torres connected with their second home runs of the season to propel the Mountain Lions past the Tornado to take game one 10-2 (6 innings) before taking the nightcap 11-2 (5 innings) thanks to home runs by Hannah Harrison and Haylie Shope

Young Harris improved to 15-6, while King fell to 6-8. The Mountain Lions return to action with a 4 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida Tuesday (March 6) at Flagler Field. 

The Tornado jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second after a bases-loaded walk by Katie McCann and a bases-loaded hit by pitch by Candace Maness. 

Sara Alderman put Young Harris on the board in the bottom half of the second with a single to shortstop that scored Webb. 

The Mountain Lions scored four in the third inning that started with a RBI double by Webb to score Murphy Davis. Webb came around to score on a single up the middle by Harrison. Torres hit a two-run homer  over the left field fence to conclude the scoring.

Webb led off the Young Harris fifth inning with a line drive home run over the right field fence.

Emily Harris started the four-run sixth inning for the Mountain Lions with a two RBI single up the middle that scored Kristan Lizardi and Madison Urquiola. Harrison ended the game with a single to left field that scored Harris and allowed Shope to score on a fielding error. 

Dharma Rosbrugh (8-3) earned the complete game victory for Young Harris as she allowed two runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts. 

Webb went 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored. Harrison finished with three hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Torres and Harris each collected one hit, two RBI and one run scored. Alderman had two hits and one RBI while Davis, Urquiola, and Lizardi each tallied one hit and one run scored.

Rachel Farmer (1-2) took the loss for King as she allowed five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in three innings pitched. 

The Mountain Lions jumped to an early lead with a four-run first inning in game two. Webb doubled down the left field line to score Shope and Harris.  Harrison followed with a two-run homer over the right field fence, her second of the season. 

Alderman started a seven-run fifth inning for Young Harris with a two RBI double to left center that scored Biz Walters and Harrison. Davis hit another two RBI double that allowed Lizardi and Alderman to score. Two batters later, Shope ended the game with a three-run homer - her fourth of the season - over the right field fence. 

Rosbrugh (9-3) picked up her second win of the day as she allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts in four innings pitched. Louise Disi earned her first save of the season with one inning of shutout relief.

Shope went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. Alderman went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Harrison finished with one run, two RBI, and two runs scored and Webb had one hit, two RBI and a run scored. Davis collected one hit, two RBI and a run scored while Lizardi tallied two hits and a run scored. 

Leslie Odom (2-2) earned the loss for the Tornado as she allowed 11 runs on 12 hits with five walks and two strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.
