YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The University of North Carolina at Pembroke scored twice in the seventh inning to rally for a 9-8 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Sunday (March 4) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The 21st-ranked Braves salvaged the win in the series finale to improved to 12-3 overall and to 6-3 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 8-10 and 4-5. Young Harris will face Tusculum College in a 4 p.m. home game Tuesday (March 6).
With Young Harris holding a 8-7 lead after six innings, Jarratt Mobley started the decisive UNCP rally with a double off YHC reliever
Steven Eichhorn (0-1) and moved to third on a stolen base. Connor Grainger tied the game at 8 on his single down the right field line. The Braves took the lead 9-8 on a Kevon Perkins double down the left field line.
UNCPÂ jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first as the Braves took advantage off a Mountain Lion error to push across four unearned runs, including three on a Luke Jackson homer to left.
The Mountain Lions got three runs back in their half of the inning.
Rudy Gaona was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded,
Cory Ewald added a sacrifice fly and
Zavier Lushington drove in the final run with a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Young Harris added four more runs in the second, including a bases-clearing double to left-center field, to take a 7-4 lead. Lushington added a RBI single through the left side.
UNC Pembroke added two runs in the third and another in the fourth to tie the game at 7. The Mountain Lions regained the lead at 9-8 on
Bradley Klees' double to right-center field in the bottom of the fourth.
UNCPÂ reliever Gunner Deal (3-0) earned the win with six innings of one-hit ball with five strikeouts.
Ewald drove in four runs for Young Harris, while Gaona and Klees led the hitting attack with two hits apiece.
