YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |
Haylie Shope hit her team-leading fifth and sixth home runs of the season and collected nine RBI in game one as Young Harris College defeated Augusta University 12-4 (five innings) in the opener before taking game two 5-4 Sunday (March 25) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 22-11 overall and 6-2 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Jaguars fell to 10-22 and 2-6. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (March 2) as they host Mars Hill University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

The Mountain Lions recognized five seniors - Rachel Benson, Sara Alderman, Murphy Davis, Hannah Harrison, and Georgia Webb - prior to the doubleheader:

Shope's nine RBI in the opener set a school record (NCAA era) for RBI in a single game - previously held by Chandler Stooksbury against Lander on March 23, 2014 - and a conference record for RBI in a single game (PBC games only).

Shope started the scoring for Young Harris in the opener with a first inning three-run homer over fence in left center field.

Shope added two more runs for the Mountain Lions in the bottom of the second inning with a two RBI single to left field that scored Emily Harris and Madison Urquiola to take a 5-0 lead.

Davis led off the third inning for Young Harris with her second home run of the season over the fence in right center field. Hannah Emerson came around to score after Harrison reached on a fielding error by second base. Shope completed her nine RBI game with a grand slam over the right field fence to take a 11-0 lead.

Lindsey Stokes put Augusta on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a single through the left side that scored Kendyl Conner. The Jaguars plated three more runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The game ended after Webb reached on a fielding error by the shortstop that allowed Harris to score.

Dharma Rosbrugh (14-7) picked up the win for the Mountain Lionsas she allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched.

Shope went 3-for-3 at the plate with nine RBI and two runs scored. Harris had two hits with four runs scored, Urquiola finished with two hits and two runs scored. Davis collected one hit, one RBI and scored one run while Lizardi had one hit and one run scored. Grace Botti tallied two hits while Harrison scored two runs.

Morgan Hunter (7-10) earned the loss for the Jaguars as she allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits with one walk in two innings pitched.

Augusta struck first in game two with a Conner single to right center that scored Ashley Boyd in the second inning.

Harrison tied the game at one for Young Harris in the third inning after she reached on a fielder's choice to second base that scored Biz Walters

The Jaguars took the lead (2-1) in the fifth inning after Savannah Gabriel doubled to right center to score Megan McCook.

The Mountain Lions tied the game at two in the bottom half of the fifth after Harris came around to score on a fielding error by the center fielder.

Augusta scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.

Harrison hit her fifth home run of the season for Young Harris with a blast over the right field fence. Webb hit a single through the right side and Davis drew a walk to put the winning run on base with Botti up to the plate.

After a wild pitch that put Webb on third and Davis on second, Botti hit the game-winning single up the middle that allowed both runners to score to take the 5-4 victory.

Rosbrugh (15-7) earned the win as she got the only batter she faced in the seventh inning to ground out.

Botti went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI while Harrison collected two hits, two RBI, and one run scored. Harris, Webb, and Davis each had one hit and one run scored.

Morgan Hunter (7-11) earned the loss for the Jaguars as she allowed three runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout in 1.1 innings pitched.
