YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Grace Botti collected four hits on the day - including a perfect 3-for-3 in game two - as Young Harris College defeated Georgia College 7-3 in the nightcap after losing the opener 9-2 in a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader Friday (March 23) evening at E.D. Rivers Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 20-11 overall and 4-2 in the PBC, while the Bobcats fell to 20-10 and 5-1. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (March 25) as they host Augusta University in a 1 p.m. PBC doubleheader. The team will recognize the four seniors prior to the games.
Georgia College struck first in game two with single up the middle by Amber Coy that scored Sarah Couch.
Madison Urquiola tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the second for the Mountain Lions with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch that scored
Haylie Shope.
Emily Harris gave Young Harris a 3-1 lead later in the inning with a two RBI infield single to second base that scored
Sara Alderman and
Murphy Davis.
Botti added to the Mountain Lion lead (4-1) in the third inning with a single to right field that scored Shope.
The Bobcats made it a 4-3 game in the fourth inning after a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch by Baylee Hall and a single to right field by Coy that scored Sutton Long.
Hannah Harrison drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the fourth for Young Harris to make it a 5-3 lead.
Kristan Lizardi made a 7-3 lead for the Mountain Lions with a single down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth inning that scored Urquiola and Alderman.
Louise Disi sent down the last 11 batters she faced for Young Harris to secure the victory.
Disi (2-2) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as she allowed one hit with three strikeouts in four innings of relief.
Botti finished 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Shope collected two hits and two runs scored, Davis had two hits and one run scored. Harris and Lizardi both had one hit and two RBI. Alderman tallied one hit and two runs scored while Urquiola had one hit, one RBI and two runs scored.
Becca Meade (6-4) earned the loss for Georgia College as she allowed three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
The Bobcats scored first in the opener with an infield single to shortstop in the top of the second by Lindley Bruce that scored Caroline Snider. Couch added another run in the inning with a single through the left side to score Bruce.
Lizardi put Young Harris on the board in the bottom half of the second with a single down the left field line that scored
Georgia Webb.
Georgia College scored two runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.
Shope added the second Mountain Lion run of the game with a sacrifice fly to to left field that scored Harris.
Jessie Morris (4-0) earned the complete game victory for the Bobcats as she allowed two runs (one unearned) on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Dharma Rosbrugh (13-7) took the loss for Young Harris as she allowed three runs (one unearned) on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Harris collected two hits and one run scored. Shope finished with one hit and one RBI while Lizardi tallied two hits and one RBI. Webb had one hit and one run scored while Harrison and Botti had one hit apiece.
