GULF SHORES, Ala. | The Young Harris College softball team wrapped up the Gulf Shores Invitational with two shutouts Sunday (Feb. 4) afternoon at the Sportsplex Stadium.
The Mountain Lions improved to 3-1 with a 6-0 win against Delta State University in the opener and an 8-0 decision in five innings against the University of West Alabama in the nightcap. Delta State fell to 3-3, while West Alabama fell to 3-3. Young Harris returns to action Friday (Feb. 9) as they travel to Saint Leo, Florida, to take on Saint Leo University in a 7 p.m. contest.
Dharma Rosbrugh (2-0) got the start in the circle in game one against Delta State. Rosbrugh threw her second consecutive complete game shutout as she only gave up three hits, four walks and struck out two batters over seven innings.
Biz Walters started the scoring for the Mountain Lions in the fourth inning after a double to right center that scored
Haylie Shope, who went 3-for-3.
Jill Torres, who went 2-for-2, sent a solo home run, her first of the season, over the center field fence in the fifth inning.
Murphy Davis doubled to left center to score
Hannah Harrison and
Sara Alderman hit a single up the middle to score Davis to complete the three-run fifth inning for the Mountain Lions.
Georgia Webb rounded out the the scoring for Young Harris after she scored on a Chelsea Lamping passed ball.
Taylor Johnson (2-1) took the loss for the Statesmen as she allowed four runs on on eight hits with four walks over 5.1 innings pitched.
Kennedy Kotula (1-1) earned her first win of the season for the Mountain Lions in game two. Kotula gave up three hits, walked two batters and struck out four over her five-inning shutout.
Harrison started the scoring in game two in the first inning after she singled to left center off UWA starter Andrea Edwards (1-2) that brought
Kristan Lizardi around to score. Alderman started a four run second inning after she connected with the ball on a 2-2 count to send her first home run in a Mountain Lion uniform over the left-center field fence. Davis ended in the game on a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Lizardi.
Harrison went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI against West Alabama, while Davis went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI as the Mountain Lions collected a dozen hits in the nightcap.
