Young Harris tames Lions 22-2

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College reeled off 18 unanswered goals as the Mountain Lions defeated Emmanuel (Ga.) College 22-2 in a non-conference men's lacrosse match on a rainy Sunday (Feb. 25) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions level their record at 3-3, while the Lions remained winless in five tries. Young Harris will face Mars Hill University in a 6 p.m. home match Saturday (March 3).

Eleven different players found the back of the goal for Young Harris. Leading the way for the Mountain Lions, who outshot Emmanuel 55-14, was Hayes Johnson with four goals. Bruce Silk and Bevan Pate struck for three goals each, while Chandler Bradley, Daniel Zimny, Harrison Wiggins and Kale Lundell had two apiece. Garrett Blake, Duncan Jackson, Ryan Peters and Jake Dunlop had one goal each as the Mountain Lions won their third consecutive match.

Young Harris took a 3-0 lead with 5:04 left in the first quarter before Emmanuel scored on a Garrison Stone goal 14 seconds later. The Lions wouldn't score again for the next 46 minutes and 28 seconds when Cam Free scored with 3:22 remaining in the match.

Blake, Bradley and Silk accounted for two assists each, while Johnson, Billy Magill, Jimmy Martelli, Pate, Zach Stephenson and Zimny had one apiece.

Young Harris won 23 of the 26 face-offs. with Stephenson claiming 17 wins and Matty Ledon the other six. Stephenson paced the Mountain Lions with 13 ground balls, while Ledon scooped up seven as YHC held a 41-9 advantage in that category. Silk scooped up three, while Dunlop, Pate, Johnson, Peters and Blake had two each.

Sean Dever picked up the win in net for YHC as he turned away six shots.
