YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College split a non-conference softball doubleheader with Lincoln Memorial University Sunday (Feb. 18) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.
Dharma Rosbrugh (3-3) threw a complete-game shutout in game one as she gave up just two hits with two walks and five strikeouts as the Mountain Lions won 3-0. The Railsplitters ended Young Harris' late-game rally as they went on to win 4-3 in game two.
The Mountain Lions improved to 5-6 on the season, while the Railsplitters went to 3-5. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 21) as they host Southern Wesleyan University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
The Mountain Lions jumped to an early lead in the second inning of game one after a groundout to second base by
Hannah Harrison that allowed
Haylie Shope to score.
Young Harris added to the lead in the sixth inning with a RBI single by
Murphy Davis that scored
Morgan Martin. Harrison added an extra insurance run with a groundout to second base that scored
Hannah Emerson. Rosbrugh threw a perfect seventh inning to end the game.
Harrison finished the game with two RBI while Davis went 3-for-3 with one RBI for the Mountain Lions. Shope tallied one hit and one run scored.
Brianna Taylor (1-4) earned the loss for Lincoln Memorial as she allowed three runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
The Railsplitters scored two runs in the first inning of game two after a single to left center by Allie Jones scored Ty-Kella Goins. Jones came around to score on a double to center field by Emma Webb. Lincoln Memorial added to their lead in the third inning after Webb singled through the right said that scored Goins.
Jill Torres put Young Harris on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single up the middle that brought
Sara Alderman around to score. The Mountain Lions came within one run after a sacrifice fly to left field by
Kelsey Nix that scored Davis and
Kristan Lizardi reach on a fielding error by the pitcher which allowed
Georgia Webb to score.
The Railsplitters ended the Young Harris rally in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
Justice Smith (2-2) picked up the win for Lincoln Memorial as she allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in five innings pitched. Brianna Taylor earned her second save on the season allowing only one hit in two innings of scoreless relief.
Webb went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI while Goins picked up two hits and two runs scored.
Louise Disi (1-1) took the loss for the Mountain Lions as she gave up two runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning pitched.
Torres finished with two hits and a RBI. Lizardi, Webb, Harrison, and Botti each had one hit.
