SAINT LEO, Fla. | Saint Leo University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 10) afternoon at University Softball Stadium.
The 23rd-ranked Lions defeated the Mountain Lions 3-1 in the opener before taking a 4-1 win in game two.
Saint Leo improved to 8-1 on the season, while Young Harris fell to 3-4. The Mountain Lions return to action Sunday (Feb. 11) on the road in Tampa, Florida, to take on the University of Tampa in a noon doubleheader.
The Lions scored their three runs in the bottom of the first in the opener. Shyanna DuBois singled to left center to bring Kacie Kelly around to score. Sarah Pauscher and Bethany Kursche scored after Bailey Burk reached on an error.
Georgia Webb singled up the middle for Young Harris in the top of the second inning to score
Hannah Harrison.
Auria Mounts (3-1) picked up the complete-game win for Saint Leo as she gave up one run on eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts over 7.0 innings pitched.
Kennedy Kotula (1-4) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched.
DuBois finished with one hit and an RBI while Kelly, Kursch, and Burk each had one hit a piece for the Lions.
Webb went 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI.
Haylie Shope picked up two hits while
Emily Harris,
Murphy Davis,
Grace Botti, and Harrison each had one hit.
Davis started the scoring in game two for Young Harris after a sacrifice fly to right field in the fifth inning that eventually led to
Kristan Lizardi coming around to score on an error.
The Lions answered in the bottom of the sixth inning after a double up the middle by Pauscher that scored Ashley Morris. DuBois scored after Wash drew a bases-loaded walk. Pauscher came home to score on a base- loaded hit by pitch from Brittany Creamer. Maddy Lynn rounded out the scoring after a pop up to second base that allowed Burk to score on a muffed throw.
Alison Mitts (4-0) picked up the win for Saint Leo as she allowed one run (unearned) on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts
Pauscher went 1-for-3 at the plate with a RBI and a run scored. Burk and Creamer each had one RBI in the win.
Dharma Rosbrugh (2-2) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions as she allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings pitched.
Shope had three hits for Young Harris, which outhit Saint Leo 15-7 in the doubleheader, in the loss. Harris,
Jill Torres, Webb, and Botti had one hit apiece.
