YOUNG HARRIS Ga. | Young Harris College fell to Flagler College 72-58 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday (Dec. 19) afternoon at the YHC Basketball Arena.
The Saints improved to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-7 and 1-3. Young Harris breaks for the holidays and returns to action Jan. 2 on the road in Greenwood, South Carolina, to take on Lander University in a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest.
Flagler held a 14-point lead (18-4) through seven minutes of the first quarter after a three-pointer by Staci Miller.
Sarah Woghiren trimmed the deficit to nine points (18-9) after a free throw with 16 seconds to go in the first quarter. Flagler made it a 15-point lead going (44-29) after a layup by Tatiyana Rock with five seconds left before halftime.
Young Harris got back within nine points (64-55) as
Rachel Dobbs sank a three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter. However, that would be as close as they would get as Flagler scored the next six points to push its lead back to 15.
The Saints had four players score in double digits led by a double-double from Kierra Crane with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Wilson scored a game-high 15 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Woghiren and
Avery Jordan both led the Mountain Lions with 11 points.
Haylie Shope grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
