PEMBROKE, N.C. | Young Harris College fell to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke 72-53 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Dec. 1) afternoon at the Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
The Braves improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 1-5 and 0-1. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (Dec. 4) as they host Lee University in a 6 p.m. contest at the YHC Basketball Arena.
Dee Dee McLane tied the game at five for the Mountain Lions with a three-pointer 2:15 into the first quarter. UNCP took the lead for good at the 7:30 mark in the first quarter after a free throw by Melanie Horne.
Young Harris got within six (33-27) after a three-pointer by McLane with 2:08 left in the second quarter.
Pamela Diokpara led the way for the Mountain Lions with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. McLane added 11 points, while
Lindsey Caudell tallied nine points and
Grace Isakson grabbed nine rebounds.
Horne led all scorers with 19 points and ShaNiya Lester tallied 14 points and five rebounds for the Braves.
