MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Avery Jordan and
Dee Dee McLane scored 10 points each as Young Harris College defeated Auburn University at Montgomery 53-45 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday (Nov. 17) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-3 overall, while the Warhawks fell to 0-3. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (Nov. 20) as they travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, to take on NCAA Division I opponent University of North Carolina at Greensboro in an 11 a.m. contest at the Fleming Gymnasium.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first quarter with six lead changes, that ended with a jumper by Evelina Avleeva of the Warhawks to tie the game at 20. Jordan gave the Mountain Lions a six point lead (29-23) with a three-pointer 3:40 into the second quarter. AUM ended the quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 30-29 lead into halftime.
Bailee Wolfe tied the game at 40 for the Warhawks with a layup 36 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Haylie Shope gave the Mountain Lions the lead for good at 42-40 with a jumper with 9:07 to go. That started a game-ending 13-5 run by Young Harris. Shope accounted for five points during the decisive run.
Jordan tallied 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while McLane had 10 points and two steals. Shope totaled nine points and 10 rebounds, while
Elle Hutchinson and
Jessica Beckner had nine points each.
Pamela Diokpara grabbed eight rebounds.
Jordan Brewster led the Warhawks with 15 points, while Avleeva totaled eight points and six rebounds.
