MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Young Harris College earned their third consecutive appearance to the Peach Belt Conference tournament after defeating Georgia College 2-1 in a PBC women's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 24) evening at Bobcat Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 6-7-0 overall and 4-5-0 in the PBC, while the Bobcats fell to 10-4-3 and 3-3-3. Young Harris concludes the regular season on Friday (Oct. 26) as they travel to Pembroke, North Carolina, to take on the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in a 2 p.m. PBC contest.
Miranda Simpson scored her fourth goal of the season at the 9:40 mark after a corner kick from
Lucero Robayo. Simpson headed the ball into the net to make it a 1-0 Young Harris lead.
Baylee Roche scored her team leading seventh goal for the Mountain Lions in the 16th minute that came in the form of a penalty kick after a foul in the box by Georgia College.
The Bobcats cut the lead 2-1 in the 21st minute via a free kick from Savanna DeValle. DeValle sent the ball to Sofia Lekas who put it in the net for the goal.
Young Harris handed Georgia College their first home loss of the season.
The Bobcats had the edge on shots 15-7 (7-7 on goal), while it was 1-1 on corner kicks.
Pien Van Kampen picked up six saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Ashlee Graham had five saves between the pipes for Georgia College.
