PEMRBOKE, N.C. | Christine Rolfes scored twice for the University of North Carolina at Pembroke as the Braves recorded a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Young Harris College Friday (Oct. 26) afternoon at a soggy Lumbee River EMC Stadium.
The Braves improved to 9-4-1 overall and to 6-3-1 in the league, while the Mountain Lions fell to 6-8-0 and 4-6-0. Young Harris will either be a six or seven seed depending on Saturday's (Oct. 27) schedule in next week's conference tournament. The Mountain Lions will be on the road Tuesday (Oct. 30) for the quarterfinals against an opponent that will be decided late Saturday (Oct. 27).
UNCP took a 1-0 lead on a Bree Mason goal at the 4:50 mark. Stacey Scott's cross was deflected off the goalkeeper's hand and was followed by Mason for her fitfh goal of the year. The Braves doubled their lead nearly 10 minutes later when Rolfes converted a penalty kick.
Rofles, who had two goals this year, gave UNC Permbroke a 3-0 lead 17 seconds into the second half with a strike from outside the box off a Scott assist.
Young Harris got its score at the 79;22 mark when
Lucero Robayo's shot careened off the crossbar and into the back of the net for her second goal of 2018. It was the first goal allowed by UNC Pembroke this season in eight home matches.
The Mountain Lions had six shots - all on goal - in the match. Robayo had two, while
Baylee Roche,
Bianey Serrano,
Mackenzie Roach, and
Payton Putzer had one apiece.
Alyssa Spridgeon had a career-high 10 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Gina Ryan corraled five for the Braves.
