YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Clayton State University outlasted Young Harris College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 20) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Lakers improved to 6-5-3 overall and 3-5-1 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-7-0 and 3-5-0. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 24) as they travel to Milledgeville, Georgia, to take on Georgia College in a 6 p.m. PBC contest.
Clayton State jumped to an early lead at the 8:29 mark after Moa Loftman sent the ball into the box and it hit off the head of a YHC defender into the net.
The Lakers made it a 2-0 lead in the 54th minute after Manoly Baquerizo served the ball from the right side to Ann-Cathrin Zabel as she put it in the left corner of the net.
Madison Patton scored her first goal of the season for the Mountain Lions in the 67th minute after
Lucero Robayo sent in a through ball down the right side. The Clayton State goalkeeper came out to challenge Patton, who knocked the ball past her from 25 yards out. and it trickled in the goal before a Laker defender could get to it.
Young Harris held an 11-10 advantage on shots (6-4 on goal), while Clayton State had the edge on corner kicks 3-1.
Hannah Richards recorded five saves between the pipes for the Lakers, while
Alyssa Spridgeon and
Pien Van Kampen recorded one save each for the Mountain Lions.
