DAHLONEGA, Ga. | Renee VanHorn had a goal and an assist as the University of North Georgia recorded a 2-0 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Young Harris College Wednesday (Oct. 17) evening in the Battle of Blood Mountain at the UNG Soccer Complex.
The Nighthawks, who are ranked No. 25 nationally, improved to 10-2-1 overall and to 6-1-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions saw their three-match winning streak snapped as they fell to 5-6-0 and 3-4-0. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Saturday (Oct. 20) for a 5 p.m. Peach Belt match against Clayton State University. Prior to the match, the Mountain Lions will recognize their seniors.
VanHorn scored her 12th goal of the year off an assist from Abbie Horn at the 38:33 mark to give UNG a 1-0 lead. The Nighthawks doubled their lead in the 63rd match when VanHorn assisted on a goal by Taylor Malasek.
Young Harris, which had eight shots in the match, had its best opportunity to score in the 80th minute when
Baylee Roche's shot careened off the crossbar. Roche led the Mountain Lions with three shots, while
Lucero Robayo had two.
Miranda Simpson,
Elin Pedersen, and
Maria Guzman also recorded a shot.
Alyssa Spridgeon had a career-high eight saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Hannah Goudy recorded two for the Nighthawks.
