YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Miranda Simpson scored both goals for Young Harris College as they defeated the University of South Carolina Aiken 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 13) at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions won their third consecutive match as they improved to 5-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the PBC, while the Pacers fell to 2-8-0 and 0-5-0. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 17) as they travel to Dahlonega, Georgia, to take on the University of North Georgia in the Battle of Blood Mountain at 5 p.m.
Simpson scored her second goal of the season at the 1:22 mark after
Bianey Serrano sent a thru ball down the right side. Simpson collected the ball on the left side and beat the keeper, who had come out to challenge, to put the ball in the right side of the net.
Aiken tied it at 1 in the 36th minute as Willa Olson crossed the ball in from the left side to Monica Armendariz who put the ball in on the right side for her third goal of the season.
Lucero Robayo stole the ball at the right baseline in the 78th minute and passed it to Simpson, who put the ball in on the right side for the deciding goal. It was Simpson's third of the year.
Young Harris had the edge on shots 26-7 (14-5 on goal), including a 10-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Alyssa Spridgeon recorded four saves in goal for the Mountain Lions. Tashiana Kwatowski picked up 11 saves between the pipes for the Pacers.
