Georgia College edges Young Harris 63-55

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Isaac Thomas scored 23 points to lead Georgia College to a 63-55 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory over Young Harris College Wednesday (Jan. 24) evening at the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats improved to 9-9 overall and to 5-7 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-13 and 4-8. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Jan. 27) when they entertain the University of South Carolina-Aiken in a 3:30 p.m. PBC contest at the YHC Basketball Arena. It will also be homecoming for the Mountain Lions.

The Mountain Lions took their largest lead of the game at 15-9 after a steal and layup by Antonio Wade with 14:44 remaining in the first half. YHC took a 33-31 lead into halftime after Corey Nelson's layup with 67 seconds left.

Georgia College broke the game open in the first 10 minutes of the second half, outscoring the Mountain Lions 19-8 to open up a 52-41 lead on a layup by Kohl Roberts with 9:57 to go.

Young Harris chipped away at the deficit, getting within five points (53-48) on a free throw by Wade with 7:35 to go. However, that would be as close as the Mountain Lions would get as they only shot 20 percent from the floor (6-of-30) in the second half. YHC only made two field goals in the final 7:35 of the game.

Thomas added nine rebounds for the Bobcats, while Roberts finished with a double double (13 points and 15 rebounds) and Jordan Davis chipped in with 10 points.

Wade was the only scorer in double figures for the Mountain Lions with 19, while Nelson tallied nine. Zion Williams added eight more and Nicksen Blanc posted seven points.
