Fantastic finish as Mountain Lions dash past Pacers 2-1

AIKEN, S.C. | Young Harris College scored twice in the final two minutes and 18 seconds to rally for a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over the University of South Carolina Aiken Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon at the Pacer Pit.

The Mountain Lions improved to 5-2-1 overall and to 2-0-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Pacers slipped to 3-7-0 and 1-4-0. Young Harris returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 7) at 2:30 p.m. when they host PBC-foe Francis Marion University in a 2:30 p.m. contest at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first half, before USC Aiken took a 1-0 lead at the 58:40 mark. Catherin McHale collected the ball in the middle of the box and fired a shot from five yards out that was blocked, but Gressa Olson was there to knock in the rebound for the Pacers.

It would stay that way until the final minutes of the match. Emily Ober took the ball up the left side, fired a shot from eight yards out across the box and put it into the top right corner of the net to tie the match at 1 with 2:18 left. It was her third goal of 2017. With regulation time winding down, Lucero Robayo got the ball on the left side and blasted the ball from 10 yards out nto the center of the net to give the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead with 30 seconds remaining. It was Robayo's third strike of the season.

USC Aiken held a slim 14-12 advantage in shots, but Young Harris had a 5-2 margin in corner kicks. Nicole Medeiros had seven saves in net for the Mountain Lions, while Karin Cadwalader accounted for four for the Pacers.
