Mountain Lions silence Patriots 2-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |  Young Harris College scored twice in the first seven minutes of the match en route to defeating Francis Marion University 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer contest Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 6-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the PBC, while the Patriots fell to 3-6-0 and 0-5-0. Young Harris returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 11) as they travel to Columbus, Georgia,  to take on No. 15 Columbus State University in a 5 p.m. PBC match.

Lucero Robayo scored her fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute off a direct kick that she chipped in from 20 yards out. Baylee Roche followed with her team-leading sixth goal of the season just minutes later at the 6:25 mark off a header from a free kick on the right side by Cristina Moreno.

Young Harris, which outshot FMU 28-6, had several more chances to add to its lead, but drew iron. Maria Martinez hit the crossbar and Maria Guzman nailed the post in the first half, while Robayo kissed the post in the opening minutes of the second half.

Nicole Medeiros notched her fifth shutout  - the most in the Peach Belt - of the season as she turned away four shots. Micahla Kitchen had seven saves in goal for the Patriots.
