YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College used two
Baylee Roche goals as the Mountain Lions upset their cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference and Battle of Blood Mountain women's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 27) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions picked up their first win in the history of the series (seven matches) against the Nighthawks and improved to 4-2-1 overall and to 1-0-1 inside the league. North Georgia slipped to 5-2-2 and 3-1-0. Young Harris travels to Aiken, South Carolina, for a 1 p.m. PBC contest against the University of South Carolina Aiken Saturday (Sept. 30).
Roche, who leads YHC with five goals this season, gave the Mountain Lions a quick 1-0 lead. Teammate
Lucero Robayo played a through ball to Roche, who knocked the ball into the right corner of the net from 15 yards out at the 4:24 mark.
Maria Martinez feed a ball into Roche at the top of the box and the junior from Ogden, Utah, deposited the insurance goal into the left corner of the net at the 55:28 mark.
Each team took 13 shots with Young Harris holding a 9-4 advantage on goal. North Georgia had a 6-2 margin on corner kicks.
Nicole Medeiros picked up her fourth clean sheet of 2017 in goal for the Mountain Lions as she recorded four saves. Hannah Goudy had seven saves between the pipes for the Nighthawks.
