YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Carlos Gomez scored twice as the Young Harris College men's soccer team defeated Emmanuel (Ga.) College 3-1 in a non-conference match Wednesday (Sept. 20) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions registered their third consecutive win as they improved to 5-1-1, while the Lions slipped to 1-3-2. Young Harris returns to action next Wednesday (Sept. 27) when they host cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia in the Battle of Blood Mountain at 7:30 p.m.Â
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead at the 36:11 mark on a penalty kick by
Marco Micaletto. The kick was set up after
Connor Stanley was taken down in the box. It was Micaletto's fourth goal of the season. The Mountain Lions doubled their lead right before the half as Gomez headed the ball into the top right corner of the net off a
Macauley King corner kick from the left side.
Gomez gave Young Harris a 3-0 lead eight minutes in the second half as he took a cross from Stanley and deposited into the left side of the net for his fourth strike of 2017.
Emmanuel got a goal back with three minutes left in the match on a Blair Springhall score off a Martin Mitreski assist.
Young Harris held a 16-12 advantage on shots and each team accounted for four corner kicks.
Alex Iglesias picked up six saves in goal for the Mountain Lions while Andy Dunnett had four for the Lions.
