Young Harris opens PBC schedule with 3-0 win over Flagler

 Young Harris College opened up its Peach Belt Conference men' s soccer schedule with a 3-0 shutout over Flagler College Saturday (Sept. 16) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions, who along with Lander University were selected to win the league in 2017, improved to 4-1-1 overall and to 1-0-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Saints slipped to 1-3-0 and 0-1-0. Young Harris steps out of conference play Wednesday (Sept. 20) at 7 p.m. when they entertain Emmanuel (Ga.) College.

Young Harris took advantage of set pieces to score its first two goals. The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead at the 9:02 mark as Marco Micaletto scored his third goal of the season. Macauley King played a short corner from the right side to Mehdy Hidane, who found Micaletto at the top of the box. Micaletto buried his shot from 20 yards out into the right corner of the net. 

Dani Fischer gave the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second half. Fischer headed in his third goal of 2017 off a King corner kick from the right side. Young Harris closed out the scoring at the 62:21 mark as James Thomas played a through ball in the box to Carlos Gomez, who deposited his second goal of the year into the right corner of the net.

Young Harris held a 15-9 advantage on shots and a 9-6 margin in corner kicks. Young Harris goalkeeper Alex Iglesias recorded his fourth clean sheet of the year as he recorded five saves, while Mel Broughton had four for the Saints.
