YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Carlos Gomez's goal 48 seconds into the second half was the difference as the Young Harris College men's soccer team shut out Lee University 1-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday (Sept. 12) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 3-1-1, while the Flames fell to 1-1-2. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 16) when they host Flagler College in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams at 7:30 p.m.
Young Harris, which outshot Lee 24-5 in the match, wasted little time in the second half. Lee goalkeeper Tristen Putnam turned away the first shot of half by the Mountain Lions'
Mehdy Hidane, but Gomez recovered the loose ball in the box and ricocheted the ball off the left post and into the back of the net at the 45:48 mark. It was Gomez's first strike of 2017,
The Flames had an excellent chance to tie the match in the final 10 minutes, but YHC goalkeeper
Alex Iglesias pushed away Jay Luzardo's header at the far post to preserve the Mountain Lion victory. Iglesias, who recorded his third clean sheet, recorded  three saves, while Putnam picked up 10 saves.
