SAVANNAH, Ga. | Young Harris College scored five runs in the 11th inning as the Mountain Lions wrapped up their 2017 season with a 6-1 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Armstrong State University Sunday (April 23) afternoon at Pirate Field.
The Mountain Lions ended the season with a 15-30 overall mark as a 7-17 league ledger. The Pirates fell to 21-23 and 5-16.Â
Young Harris sent the game into extra innings after
Brett Westmoreland connected on solo home run to left field with one out in the seventh inning to tie the game at 1.
It would stay that way until the 11th.
Nick Sexton started the winning rally off Armstrong reliever Caleb Woods (2-5) with an infield single and moved to third base on a double to right-center field by
Zach Wall.
Rudy Gaona followed with a two-run single through the left side to give Young Harris a 3-1 lead.
Royce Woolfolk drove in another run on a misplayed grounder before
Zach Odom added a run on his fielder's choice.Â
Jared Campbell (2-0), who pitched two scoreless innings of relief, pitched around a leadoff single in the bottom half of the inning for the Pirates to earn the win.
Michael Livingston pitched the first nine innings for the Mountain Lions, allowing one run on eight innings and struck out seven.Â
Young Harris had 12 hits in the game with Wall leading the way with three. Sexton and
Luke Miller each contributed two hits in the victory.Â
