EMERSON, Ga. | Young Harris College rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out a 9-7 non-conference baseball victory over the University of Southern Indiana Wednesday (March 8) afternoon at the Perfect Game Complex.
The Mountain Lions won their second consecutive game as they improved to 5-11 overall, while the Screaming Eagles fell to 3-6. Young Harris opens a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Columbus State University Friday (March 10) at 5 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.
Southern Indiana had rallied themselves to take a 7-6 lead after scoring twice in the seventh and adding three more runs in its at-bat in the eighth.
Nick Sexton started the winning rally by drawing a walk off reliever Justin Watts (0-1) and then stealing second base.
Zach Beggs followed with a one-out walk, before both runners moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch.
Zach Wall stroked a double to left field to tie the game at 7. After Watts struck out the next batter,
Cory Ewald knocked a two-out, 0-2 pitch into right field, scoring Beggs and giving the Mountain Lions a 8-7 lead.
Tyler Washington added an insurance run on his RBI single to left.
Zach Hopkins earned his second save of 2017 as he pitched around two walks for a scoreless ninth inning.
Steven Eichhorn (2-0) got the final out in the eighth inning to pick up the win for the Mountain Lions.
Young Harris had taken a 2-0 lead in the second on Washington's two-run double to right field. The Mountain Lions doubled their lead an inning later on Wall's two-run blast - his second of 2017 - to right field. Young Harris took a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth on Ewald's two-run double down the left field line.
The Mountain Lions collected 14 hits against five different USI pitchers. Ewald and Wall each led the way with three hits, while

Rudy Gaona and Washington each had two. Wall, Ewald and Washington each drove in three runs for Young Harris.
