YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Armstrong State University swept a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Young Harris College Saturday (March 4) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.
The Pirates took the opener 7-4 to snap the Mountain Lions' 14-game winning streak before shutting out Young Harris 6-0 in the nightcap.
Armstrong State improved to 12-5 overall and to 2-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 14-2 and 0-2. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (March 5) Â with a noon PBC doubleheader against Flagler College.
The Mountain Lions totaled four runs and six hits in game one. Hannah Harrison, who went 2-of-3, had a two-run single in the first to give Young Harris the lead. Armstrong scored four in the fifth and Young Harris scored two in the bottom of the sixth off a two-run homer from Kelsey Nix, her first of the season, to tie the game at 4. The Pirates rally for three runs in the seventh to take game one.
Sierra Peebles (7-2) earned the complete-game win for the Pirates as she scattered six hits and gave up four runs. Nikkie Kovalsky (7-1) earned her first loss of the season giving up three hits and three runs in relief.
Armstrong State held Young Harris to just one hit in game two, a third inning double by Jeanie Perrucci. The Pirates tagged Kovalsky (7-2) for three home runs over five innings.
Jane Trzaska (4-3)Â picked up her fourth win of the season as she only gave up one hit, walked two and struck out four batters.Â
